How to Get to Bocas del Toro

Your time and budget are important to decide if he will travel by plane, public bus or by car. Just follow this basic guideline.

From Panamá

From Panama City The trip from Panama City to Almirante takes around 10 to 11 hours, and you will be travelling on a comfortable, air-conditioned night bus. Overnight buses from Panama City to Almirante depart at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at Albrook Bus Terminal. You will arrive to Almirante between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. The first boat to Isla Colón departs at 6 a.m. and takes 30 minutes. Boats depart every 30 minutes until 6 p.m. The cost for the overnight bus ticket is approximately $30 and the boat (water taxi) costs $5. On Sundays, there is also a bus that leaves Panama City at 7 a.m. More info

From Costa Rica If you're in Costa Rica, you can take a bus from San Jose to Sixaola, which is at the border, or you can take a bus to Changuinola, which is about a 45 minute drive from Almirante, the port city where you take a boat to Bocas. There are also shuttle services that operate from several parts in Costa Rica such as Puerto Viejo, Cahuita or Manzanillo, directly to Bocas. More info

BY CAR

Travel throws Gualaca and fallows the road to Almirante. In Almirante there are places to park your car. Approximate cost $ 3.00 per night.

Upon arriving at PORT OF ADMIRAL can take a boat (Taxi Marino), takes 30 minutes. Approximate fare $5 for nationals $6 for non-nationals. (Seniors discount applies to nationals and residents).

Arriving at ISLA COLON, you can take a taxi to CARIBBEAN VILLAGE APARTMETS, about 800 meters from the pier. Approximate cost $1.00 per person.
